U.S. troops badly damaged ancient Babylon

Experts for UNESCO say considerable damage was inflicted by the U.S. military in Iraq to one of the world's most important archaeological ... » Full Story on USATODAY.com

Oh thats right blame the U.S.A. Wouldn't want to blame the insurgants or al-qida or the taliban. It was a war, and I sure did see alot of people celebrating and hitting shoes on a statue of one called Hussain. I'll bet there wanting to extort more money from us. My answer is go ask Allah. You ain't getting any money or sorries from me.

This Anti-American OPINION comes out of AP - Paris, go figure!

Vandalism? Bullsheet! I thought the US Military made a strategic choice of where to camp. It was WAR. USATODAY = Anti-America.

Of course the piece does not mention UNESCO is a United Nations lapdog.

The UNESCO report presented Thursday says American troops and contractors dug trenches several hundred yards long through the vestiges, leveled hilltops and drove heavy vehicles over the fragile paving of once-sacred procession pathways.

And I suppose they want a big payoff for that? Go move the dirt back!
Cripes...Any little thing to bitch about!

Just send the bill to Washington there is enough money left in the pork stimulus bill. BHO will redistribute wealth anyway to pay for the damage.

The Babylonian people lived in an area that was the birthplace of civilization. Without them, white Europeans would still be living in caves and drinking their own urine.

How can u even justify damaging of an ancient city.No matter what a few bad apples did, should we punish innocent people & destroy their homes & history just to make ourselves feel better? The Twin Towers & Pentagon were the most terrible tragedies on U.S.soil that I've ever seen or even heard of in my 37 yrs.& I hope I will never see anything like it again, but revenge isn't the answer.I know it seems easy to say,but let God handle them. All war does is take lives & cost $."What is it good for..NOTHING!"You can't win them all anyway, somebody's got to lose & one day it may be U.S.!

if there was a real reason to start a war in Iraq ..this wouldn't matter

The vandalism was committed by the Iraqis' not the US troops. The oldest exiting Quran was stolen by an Iraqi. It was after this that the troops had to become babysitters and police. The digs and such was because when the US asked for help we were given none. These people knew all of this and stood by and said and did nothing. So don't blame the US for something a lot of different informed organizations kept silent about.Silence distroys and kills,so speak up.

Babylon was ruined way before the United States went in to kill terrorists. The people that live there never try to restore or preserve Babylon, so why blame it on United States? Like WWII did not do any damages?

War is hell! How many landmarks were destroyed during WWII? I still have no idea why we are still either in Afghanistan or Iraq. Bush-Obama same ole story... less than a dozen people in planes have cost us close to a Quadrillion dollars and the lives of our sons and daughters. Bull*** Mark my words we will be looking at a proposal for a World Government in the next 10 years. The days of milk and honey are gone. War, Famine, Disease, and Pestilence are riding in so enjoy life, praise God, and prepare your soul.

You need to read! The "ancient city" is a modern reconstruction based on historical data as it is believed. If there was anything ancient at all, it was minimal. This was Hussein's deal.

Big, the only thing you got that is big is your mouth and your ignorance. Spare the generalizations, the conservatives do not have a lock on loyalty and patriotism and anyone who truly thinks so is way more deluded than they realize. You are just one of a ship of fools here on buzz, this is not real life and this is not the real world. Get over your self.

Too bad that we damaged ancient Babylon, but if there was some fighting there and I personally was being fired on or my troops, I'd level it.

maybe they were looking for more mass graves from Sadaam's days of killing his own people...the UN needs to worry about the mass killings in china, iran, honduras.etc etc...maybe they were looking for ACORN people to help with fraudelent elections and census taking ....
