I never really understood why conservatives are so concerned about other people's sex lives. What happens behind close doors between 2 consenting adults is nobody's business. It seems rediculous that our military needs any dedicated soldier that they can get right now and they are not making their recruitment numbers because of barring gays from serving. and all you conservatives that are in protest to them serving , you should go to the recruitment station and take their place on the battle field

To Wet-Suit -- Even with the fact that a battallion of pink robed homosexuals in fuzzy slippers, carrying whips and handcuffs may be enough to give the enemy nightmares for a very long time... I don't see many of those who have chosen to embrace their feminan side-- being cut out for warcraft, killing, and death. Though I could be wrong...
There are other occupations of course but they are all soldiers first.

Do you think there are more gays, or more conservatives in the armed forces? Because if the All the Conservatives got out of the armed services they gays would be unable to defend themselves against all the Foreign Powers that would Kill Them for being gay, even if they were granted the realese of nuclear weapons!

Further, this IS about Public Conduct! Gays are Not the only persons who are forbiden from serving openly. The US Armed forces are trying to tack down 40 soldiers (partially) identified by the SPLC as being white-racists. Gang membership and other affiliations are forbiden. Even Visable (in uniform) Tattoos are now a Bar to Entry in the armed forces!

It is not a predjudice to want the best mentally and physically fit soldiers you can get on the battlefield....It's common sense

Why is it so hard to understand that the military is "discipline"? If a person is obese, they may not serve; if a person is underweight and sickly, they may not serve; if a person has criminal tendencies and constantly in trouble with the law; they may not serve. But the gays want special treatment as usual.

If some soldier/Marine in an Infantry line unit comes out and tells his buddies he's gay, I am guessing something very bad will happen to him. With that many "A type" personalities and a gay... someone is going to get hurt.

I bet the gays can hit a target better then the "straight" personnel.

Unit cohesion is being ruined for the sake of political correctness.

For gays in the military to be legitimate, men and women could not be quartered seperately.

The reason they ARE housed seperately is to avoid destraction from their duties. How is a gay man or woman being kept from that same destraction?

It isn't about rights, it is about the reality of human behavior. If gays can be in the military, straight men and women - to maintain EQUALITY- cannot be housed seperately.

Just because someone is gay doesnt make them any less qualified to serve..as a former soldier I am not saying we should walk around screaming it..though we shouldnt have to lie or be pigeon holed for people even thinking it, if you have ever served then you would understand when it comes to females you are either classified as a ho or gay..and the macho-est of dudes could be gay, all are not flamboyant let alone feel the need to hit on every person of the same sex..why can you just stop feeding into stereo types..

what would you do if someone you loved and cared about was gay, it has nothing to do with the way you were brought up, its been around a long long time..people are people..try to think of things that you do or say and imagine if you were in the other persons shoes..we are who we are in this world..and that is human..

This article does NOT mention that all of our allies that have allowed gays to serve openly, and that have all volunteer armed forces are having a terrible time getting recruits! This is true even for those nations who do not have trrops serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.

There is a certain world view for most young Men who want to become soldiers; especially for those who volunteer for the Marines, or "Combat Arms" (Infantry, Cavalry, Armor, Combat Engineers, etc.). It is possible that some gays, even "openly gay" persons would make fine individual soldiers. But an army operates as Squads, Platoons, Comapanies, Battalions, Regiments, Brigades, Divisions, Corps!!!

It does not just require teamwork, it requires Hundreds of THOUSANDS of young Men to train for, and if Need be FIGHT WARS! Do you think their are enough gays willing to sacrifice Their lives in Our Defense; or should we continue to rely upon "Macho, Motivated, Manly, Volunteers" (many from the "Bible-Belt" or other "God Loving" rural areas)?

My INFANTRY unit in IRAQ spends too much time in (hours long) briefings about Sexual Assualt, Sexual Harrasment, Sensativity, and Conduct, etc., etc, Political Correctness does NOT enhance my units Combat Effectiveness!!!

In Iraq there are More warnings about Sexual Assault & Sexual Harrasment than there are about IED's!!!

My fellow INFANTRYMEN and I should concentrate on Battelfield Tactics and techniques, NOT "Political Correctness"!

I'm more concerned about all these illegals in the u.s. military.

It really doesn't matter. As long as they serve their country. Being gay has nothing to do with being able to do your job. It just your choice of whose arms you prefer to be in at the end of the day. It's sad that some who is not a citizen of the united states can serve with out fear. Yet a person who is found gay can be kicked out yet is a american. Where the priorities in that.

I am so dissapointed at some of these answers. Being gay may be wrong in some peoples minds. Yet lets not be stupid about this. If you find out a friend is gay. Why should it matter as long as they know where you stand. To be honest that person you are willing to disown. Could be some who could really help you when you need it. Me personally I have a friend who is gay. She is the one few people I can call my sister. What she does for sex is none of my business but that doesn't make her any less a friend than my striaght friends.
