Looks like we'll have to bail out Detroit just to avoid a widespread economic collapse. But can we at least make them promise to stop making s***** cars first?

Find another mechanic.
The line that it is a piece of s***.is usually redolent of his outlook on most everything.
You need a mechanic that does good work, not one
who spouts cliches as cover for his mediocre work.
Note that most vehicles will not suffer benign neglect, maintenance is not a perhaps.
