What your loneliness is telling you

New science says being lonely speeds aging. Old philosophy says the holiday blues are a signal to examine and change your life. » Full Story on Salon.com

I learned a long time ago the difference between being lonely, and alone.... when you are lonely, you are thinking of the other person/people. Pining, wishing they did more were more, having expectations. You tend to dwell on the negatives.

When you are alone, you enjoy your space....you are able to focus on yourself and things you want to accomplish. Doing things just for you.

It is easy for people to fall into a state of loneliness even when surrounded by many. I think it is because we all relate differently, most people are not mind readers but we seem to expect that they should know our needs. When they don't meet our unexpressed needs, we feel lonely.
