My comment doesnt refer to the main story, but that most of the comments of the story were refuting what the paper sated. A lot of the comments have been very critical of the paper's racial slant on the story. However, the comments have now dissapeared. It's a shame that the Philly Paper can no longer be objective.
I lived in Philmont Heights in the early 70's I seem to remember at that time alot of us at heard they did not allow Jewish people to join this is something to check out.
They are kids and they were acting as such. This is not an olympic size pool. They overwhelmed the facility and it was not safe for them or the permanent members. The camp did not reveal how many children would be coming to the pool management.
As usual the so called minority screams racism whenever they feel slighted. They can't justify there claims nor do they even try. They scream "Racism" and except everyone to bow to their claims. They need to think of their children's safety, at an over crowded pool, rather than their own misguided personal belief that they are a put upon minority.
i only saw this story on cnn this morning, i am outraged. i am a white american and on top of that i live in southeast georgia. you can't get much more redneck than the area i live in. this would never happen here. if those children were turned away because of the color of their skin, i hope the club and every member of that club has to pay dearly. if it was as some has suggested because of space, why would that not been related when the children were asked to leave. why did it take, authorities looking into before that was used as an explanation. there is no place in this country, or world for that matter, that racism is ever appropriate. i am in disbelief that this would happen today. and as far as the little children hearing those comments, i hope the people who said those things peace in there life, because they don't have it now. i hope the good lord above will forgive them, to hurt a child in anyway should be the worst crime imaginable.
I'm sensing that the general public is jumping the gun and pulling out the race card before a thorough investigation is completed and the actual truth of the situation is known. If verifiable racism, then the club should be held to the utmost accountability of the law. Such actions are not acceptable in today's society. However, if it is a situation where the number of children anticipated to attend was not adequately identified and the pool and its existing members were overwhelmed then the club is within its rights to exercise its discretion on the basis of overall safety to its prior members. Let's perform the due diligence fairly and await the results before pulling out the race card.
THERE IS SOMETHING ALL BLACK PEOPLE NEED TO REALIZE. IT MAY BE JULY OF 2009, BUT TO MANY WHITES, YOU'RE STILL A NEGRO. THAT'S USING THE NICE WORD. YOU HAVE NOT YET ARRIVED. YOU MAY ALSO HAVE A WHITE MAN IN BLACK SKIN IN THE WHITE HOUSE. TO SOME IT MATTERS NOT. THERE'S A SIGN SOMEWHERE THAT READS, "IF WE CAN DO NOTHING ELSE TO YOU, WE MUST INSULT YOU." INVESTIGATE, AND WASTE TIME. ATTEMPT YOUR VISIT AGAIN. THEY'LL PROBABLY PUT SOMETHING IN THE POOL. PREJUDICE IS ALIVE. NO. IT'S NOT EVERYONE, BUT IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE. SOME FOLK ARE AFRAID OF THE MIXING. NOW WOULD BE A GOOD TIME FOR US TO NEGOTIATE, BECAUSE WE'VE BEEN PRAYING FAR TOO LONG WITH NO RESULTS. IT IS 2009. IT'S ALSO WE, US, AND OURS!!!!!
There it goes the old race card again, Think People Think, 65 kids in a small building is a whole lot of kids, regardless of what ever color that they are,
green, red orange, blue, white, black, yellow or purple. It seems it is far easier to pull out the race card then to actually sit down and use a little common sense.

If it is a private club with dues paying members it has, whether we like it or not, the right to exclude whomever it wants. Also, it's primary concern has to be for its dues paying members. If the pool was overwhelmed and had neither the personnel or equipment to handle the influx, the safest thing to do was close the pool to outsiders. In other stories, it appears the pool had closed to other groups that were primarily white. The only thing worse the racism is screaming "racism" where it has yet to be proven
yall don'understand!! the liitle kids heard the parents of the white kids in the pool saying they don't want their kids playing with the black kids.. look at the news. yall are so quick to agree with the pool club thats its sick. this is america!!! not north korea!! if yall kkk hate us so much just stay away from us.don't say racist stuff around are kids..... keep your racist thoughts to yourselfs.. another yall entertainers..kill me!! yall should be speaking up at this trash!! but i guess because its not yall kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sell outs!!!!!!!!!!!
TO DEB, IN GEORGIA; GIRL, JUST KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN. THE PREJUDICE IS STILL THERE. I GUESS THE INFLUX OF SO MUCH OF THE GAY COMMUNITY KEEPS THEM PRETTY BUSY. CLOSE TO REDAN, GEORGIA, AN ELDERLY BLACK WOMAN WAS SHOT DEAD IN HER BED BECAUSE SHE MOVED WHEN WHITE COPS BROKE INTO HER HOME BY MISTAKE, LOOKING FOR DRUG DEALERS WHO LIVED DOWN THE STREET. FANCY THAT. IT'S NOT EVERYONE WHO REALIZES, WE, US, OURS. SOME FOLK STILL THINK, ME, MINE, THEY, THEM, THOSE. AMERICA IS MADE UP OF, "WE THE PEOPLE."
President/Director of day care declined an interview with CNN....Gotcha...way to go Mr Director, after all it is the city/suburbs of brotherly love, yeah right...been there done that! Racism in America is well and alive. I suggest to Mr Director to close down the facility immediately before CNN come back for another interview to listen to the kindergarden excuse of why his facility lives in the 1960 era.
Inner city kids should be swimming at inner city pools. Country clubs are for paying members regardless of race. People pay handsome monthly retainers to reserve the luxury of having a private, well kept clubs to visit. Minorities don't seem to understand that, and when denied the race card gets pulled. As affirmative action grows stronger, the minorities think they have the right to just do whatever they want. Its a sad time in America.
The swimming pool incident 2 days ago is really on my mind because of the children. My first experience being "thrown out" or "unable to enter" (because of my sking color), I was embarrased and anger because I did not know. Does this sound like an abused person, blaming themself? As these children leave crying, I realize they had learned a fact they will never forget. It has been 45 years for me and I still hesitate. THAT IS VERY SAD. Treat these children as you would any other abused child. Respect Them!!! Do not try to explain "adult abuse". If there was overcrowing at the club pool, a phone call to the camp director, would have kept the abuse to these children from occuring.
I am so sick of this. Why is it racism to deny people free use of a pool that others are having to pay for using?
Why isn't it a hate crime when 50 blacks beat a man, woman, their two children and two friends - simply because they are white?
Is there some sort of double-standard that the black community wants to keep alive so that they can continue to scream "give me?"
I have never been a person who cared one way or another what color a persons skin was - If I liked you, I like you; If I didn't I didn't - just because of who you were. But, that is being tested every time I hear these groups screaming RACISM. Keep on and you will make ALL non-blacks racist.
I hope they close the pool and the club down. When the students heard what the members said and then the club refused to let them come to the pool anymore, it is clearly racism. You can't justify it, erase it, and for those who don't understand that this is racism, you never will. You can't whitewash this. It is not only this story, but it is all over the major networks now. This is 2009, and technology today does not allow for coverups an distortions for long.
Not every little thing that happens to someone who is a minority is racist!! Why can't people see that!!!!? I think the club was simply overwhelmed and this group is trying to make these claims because someone (obviously one of the adults) has a chip on their shoulders!
In order to avoid being hurt, I believe children should be informed that there is a big difference between society and individuals. Yes, it seems that society has finally moved beyond racisim, but there are some individuals who will be racist bigots until the day they die. I also believe that everyone should take note of the reversal of roles going on in the world today. A hundred years ago, some African Americans believed they had to "go along to get along" -- act like "Uncle Tom" in front of racist white people to protect themselves and their families from violent attcks. Now it's racist white people who have to go along to get along -- pretend to accept and embrace all races to avoid being socially embarrassed in front of their neighbors and co-workers.
THE CLUB PRESIDENT SAID" THEY WERE CHANGIN THE COMPLEXION OF THE POOL PEOPLE"''''' IF THAT AIN'T RACIST WHAT THE H### IS.......... THIS IS AMERICA THE HOME OF THE FREE!!!! I LOVE ALL PEOPLE.IM SAD FOR THESE YOUNG KIDS CRYING FROM HEARING WHAT WAS SAID ABOUT THEM!!!
This is so sad! This club should be shut down! I would just like to tell the children do not let this discourage you let incourage you to fight for what is right! There will always be ignorant people but we will not continue to make progress unless people stand together against this kind of injustice! To the little man who was crying during the interview I share your tears but don't let their hate become your hate. Love always wins. Let this inspire you to fight against this ignorance. To the adults you must fight do not let this rest until there is an acceptable conclusion you must do this to show the children that this cannot happen this cannot be accepted not today not ever. God Bless!!!
I am from the South, and honestly there are places in the South where this still goes on. I am from a small town called Middlesex, NC, and we had a community pool that was segregated. Then some time during the 80s it was sold to a private owner to avoid having to integrate. To this day only white people swim at this pool, and this is not far-fetched, nor uncommon in America.
All I can say is keep crying wolf with the race card and pretty soon no one is going to believe you.
Good God! I am an ashamed white american today over this story. The sight of that young black boy crying and telling his story to the CNN reporter was too much! # 1 is that if there was a problem with the pool size then the daycare center should have been notified asap and a later time or another day could have been worked out because they were at capacity at that time.. But clearly no attempt was made so I dont believe them.. #2 those people that made terrible comments and took their kids out of the pool...what do you do with these people to make them see that their racism is SO wrong. That is what is so sickening about this..you can sue the pool and management but how do you change those peoples hearts away from hatred?
Let's face it. We all know that the lewd comments, gestures, and looks were made by the haughty members and their spoiled white brats. It's obvious the manager did nothing to mitigate his "error in judgement" by proposing a different time or schedules. Only a true bigot would think otherwise.
I hope the children that heard by the slants and were hurt by the deplorable behavior know they are loved and encouraged by a wider community that doesn't accept the slurs of few ugly adults.
I wonder if the Day camp needs volunteers...
God Bless.
Okay, my relative's son was one of the children turned away from this club. The club was aware of the number of children coming prior to accepting the payment, for the questions is on the paperwork that my relative emailed to me. His son was one of the children who said "hi" to one of the white children whom responded. " Your black and your daddy is a drug dealer. You're bad". Wow. His father is an attorney and his mother is a nurse......Now you have more racist people outpouring how this was not a racist incident. Again....the pool was well aware of how many people were to attend. The problem began when the whites began calling the organization and complaining about how they did not want their white kids to be dirtied with the Blacks and Mexican kids. That's what they said....Mexican kids. WOW. This is amazing.
yeah!! bob it's pepole like you who try so hard to deny things like this, that it's hard to think things are really changing!!! as far as we know you proballey was one of the parents who left the pool are that works for the racist club!! kids are crying but that not good enough because he's black.yeah!! spoken like a true redneck!!!!!!!!!!!
Why do these people keep taking this group of kids to different pools nowhere near their location....they seem to be herding them like grazing livestock....just waiting for someone to complain.
I'll tell you what - show up in at a store in Tibet with 300 Amish people...and you know what? People will ask "What are all of those Amish people doing here".
This is just another example of Blacks trying to create a stir and then asking for a handout when they achieve what they sought. They should be tried for this fraud.
Just because there were some racial remarks made, doesn't mean that everyone present was against them being there. Sounds as if the minority were over ruled by the majority. Money talks. Sadly I have known black parents who didn't want their kids hanging around black kids who were homeless, so this type of intolerance is not just a black and white issue. I think that if these kids had been poor whites, they would have been treated much the same way.
I think the owners should just close down the pool, and fill it in with cement. Then NOBODY can swim.
