Attorney General May Probe Bush Torture Policy

Obama doesn't want to look back, but Attorney General Eric Holder may probe Bush-era torture anyway. » Full Story on Newsweek

Upholding the nation's laws is not partisan. Showing the people that no one is above the law is not partisan. It is Mr. Holder's responsibility to demonstrate to the people of this country, and the world, that deliberate, flagrant, violations of the law will have consequences. Does he have the back-bone to do what must be done?

Holder needs to investigate why Obama called off the prosecution of Black Panthers intimidating voters and also why John Conyers suddenly called off his hearings on ACORN.

There are way more important things than this old stuff.

Holder is a despicable arrogant racist who is a two faced liar brought on board by Obama to help do his dirty work. Obama has stocked his cabinet with Chicago style scum and none are wothy of respect. And, Holder ranks at the top.

The Newsweek Author in this effort is really laughable...

Suggesting "Alberto Gonzales, who allowed the Justice Department to be run like Tammany Hall" ?

Uh, compared to the Obama Administration, the Bush Administration looks quite admirable.

Did Newsweek forget the Obama Administration just fired the Americorps Inspector General to cover crony corruption? And there is evidence the First Lady was involved in this unethical move?

Wow, only one comment that suggest what we have done is illegal and should be investigated. I guess holding people without charges and torturing them repeatedly does not really amount to anything worth investigating. But the others are quick to select what should be investigated, which makes me wonder, they are okay with torturing as a nation? I am not. I truly am not. Anyone who minimizes this is without a sense of justice or conscience, or a Republican.

For all you gleeful Libs, don't get to cocky people, It wasn't to long ago and you guys were in the same boat as the Republicans. The difference is when your guys got the power back, your group got stuck on stupid. Friday, the GAO released their 10 year report, saying we were going to be running $10 to $12 trillion deficits per yr, due to Obama's policies. In his 1st year alone, without healthcare on the table, Obama will have increased the deficit $1.4 trillion, without any new jobs to speak of. But now his administration is referring to jobs they might be saving instead of new jobs, & it's a jobless recovery. What a joke this has been...a costly one,

Carse' : What a pitiful human being you are. I see your info page is set to private, I see why. Let me guess, you are probably left wing, & think anyone who has served in the military is no good. I guess thats evident from your post. I take pride in Knowing my son served with pride, distinction, and was loved by many, many people frrom all walks of life. Every soldier who serves now or in the past did so to protect your right to be an a**hole... Good day you sad person...

Now this is real clever. This is an attempt to divert attention away from Odumber's failed Stimulus plan, which he now cleverly says was never designed to work immediately. Quick, rewind that tape to where he said it would work by the summer. Who gives a crap about a bunch of terrorist's rights, the only torture I am worried about is that were about to be taxed to death.

Please. This story is laughably obvious stagecraft by Rahm...scripted and planted by the White House, with Eric Holder reading his part. Let me clue you in....here's what happens next. Holder proceeds with these prosecutions and the President feigns regret about it. Wasn't me, it was Holder. The Left Wing is appeased...Obama's fingerprints aren't on the prosecution. The "rule of law" will be touted and celebrated. A lot of "shucks, Eric did what he thought he had to do...what courage." And NEWSWEEK retains its backstage pass to the Obama show. Does anyone really believe that Barrack Obama and Eric Holder aren't talking to each other about these prosecutions? This is "Plausbile Deniability 101" Nice "reporting!"

Holder pardoned those Puerto Rican terrorists and was Castro's lawyer in the Elian Gonzalez case. Waterboarding is not torture - pulling nails, cutting balls is. I am ashamed to admit that I am waiting for another 9/11 - only that will stop this Abu Hussein's communist attack on this country.

I see those ACORN brownshirts fouling these conversations with their illiterate blather. Their stimulus money is working - $9 billion so far; they are infesting the internet at $16/hr paid by their Abu Hussein from Kenya.

"Holder, 58, may be on the verge of asserting his independence in a profound way. Four knowledgeable sources tell NEWSWEEK that he is now leaning toward appointing a prosecutor to investigate the Bush administration's brutal interrogation practices, something the president has been reluctant to do. While no final decision has been made, an announcement could come in a matter of weeks, say these sources, who decline to be identified discussing a sensitive law-enforcement matter. Such a decision would roil the country, would likely plunge Washington into a new round of partisan warfare, and could even imperil Obama's domestic priorities, including health care and energy reform. Holder knows all this, and he has been wrestling with the question for months. "I hope that whatever decision I make would not have a negative impact on the president's agenda," he says. "But that can't be a part of my decision."

Right.

Be careful Obama, this spirit you carry to hurt Republicans will turn on you in "Spades"...(and I'm not making a RACIAL REMARK). Play an attention getting topic and think what you do in "open sighted darkness" away from the Media's eye shall be seen by God and He will deal with you after you have accomplished his purpose.

That punk Matt Drudge picked up on this Newsweek piece, now you see the best minds our "conservative" element has to offer, gacking up this bile as a way to feel better about their inner deficiencies. Pine for the dignity of the bush years? You just might be an unAmerican ignorant POS.

I hope they conduct hearings if for no other reason that it would set the precedent to go back and prosecute unconstitutional actions and put those responsible behind bars. Obama probably sees this and that would be why he is against this action.
Newsweek has become such a pitifully partisan source of news that was hard to even finish the article. Its fawning over Holder's personal life and the GD mention of the Historic Black nature makes me puke. Do your job and quit editorializing everything liberal action and look at the hard news aspect. People are getting fed up with glorifying blacks, almost like we have little expectations of them so give them a break if they are substandard. It is demeaning and sets the stage for worse recoil if we keep going downhill as a nation.

You don't have to be a "liberal" (I despise leftist tools as much as anyone that knows/understands how extremist manipulation works) to be disgusted and outraged by bush era torture policies, just possess some kind of conscience as fully formed human being, and just a minimum knowledge of this nation, it's cardinal concepts, laws and above all, core values. You RW turds are no doubt complaining that historians that rightly place bush/cheney excesses and an aberration in our history are "liberals". That's all you've got.

Republicans ought to push for the hearings and set the stage for the next inquisition when Obama is frog marched into hearings for the unforgivible crime of destroying the lives of millions of Americans for his own political good. This would be historical. When do you think the next black would be up for any elected job?

"Alberto Gonzales, who allowed the Justice Department to be run like Tammany Hall". Nice unbiased reporting. Newsweek is an embarrassment to journalism. What has happened to the American press. Is there anywhere anyone can go to get the facts so we can decide for ourselves. The article is totally worthless. Did the reporter stay for dinner and drinks when they were done with the interview. What crap!!
