Lose the BlackBerry? Yes He Can, Maybe

Security concerns and record-keeping laws mean that Barack Obama is unlikely to become the first e-mailing president. » Full Story on New York Times

What purpose does it serve to remove the Blackberry from P.E. Obama?
People always say the president is in a bubble, and now here is one that doesn't want it to happen. Bad rule.

I totally agree. I think the President Elect has sense enough not to do the wrong kind of communicaton on his blackberry, i.e. sensitive issues.

I agree with both of you. Obama doesn't strike me as someone who is stupid enough to do anything that would hurt this great nation. Let him keep his email--I don't know what I would do if I wasn't able to use my email and he is soon to be the most important person in the country.

I agree with all three of you---mostly. I gave all of you a "thumbs up"! I am a huge Obama supporter, & believe he is an extremely talented intellectual who would never do anything wrong with INTENT. However the worry is, the outbound messages are in fact a gateway for hackers to intercept other people's identity, email domain, personal information, or worse---National Security.

I'm the first person who says YES to Obama for emailing, if it can be done securely, and/or there is a closed loop in the network. I personally would be having Blackberry withdrawal symptoms. :-) I hope he can work something out, if BUSH doesn't spend all of our money first bailing out rich CEO's...

I think it is time to step into the new century. In this information & technology age I think our scientists and engineers can come up with a way that our president can stay connected to the people and nation he represents without putting him at risk. Come on!!! It is good that he get unfiltered information directly and not from those that are chosen to do that for him. It is another form of check & balance.......and I have lost faith and trust in our government over the last 8 years. I admire Mr. Obama for forcing this issue to come up for debate. Whether it happens for him or not the issue is being discussed and contemplated. "Change".....isn't that what we as Americans voted for!!!!???

Its amazing to see just how much scrutiny and constraints go along with the job of being Commnader in Chief. Although I don't like it, the reality is that the more channels of un-secure information the incoming President uses, the greater threat to U.S. security. It may be difficult, but I believe President Elect Obama will make the transition rather smoothly.

I think that he should be able to keep the use of his email. This is a technology based world, and I think that the laws need to reflect that....
