Months to Live: Sisters Face Death With Dignity and Reverence

For end-of-life care, a group of convent sisters rely on social networks rather than aggressive medical care. » Full Story on New York Times

“This is what our culture, our society, is starved for, to be rich in relationships,” Sister Mary Lou said. “This is what everyone should have.”

A stunning article outlining a different path in end-of-life care.

I have faith and have been near death more than once in my life. Altho I will take dr. instructions & prescriptions to remain as healthy as possible for my 80 years and beyond, hopefully I will live my life as I should. At least I am trying to do so. But I do not fear death; I just want to die with dignity.

I went to a Catholic school in Pottsville., Pa. that was staffed by sisters of St. Joseph so I was reading the article- hoping to see a familiar name- but then realized I am 71 so the nuns who taught me
would all be in their late 90's. I should have been looking 10-20 years ago.

Why do I feel under the new health care or old Clinton Plan re-vised that I am supposed to die so the world can continue to invade the USA?
Thank goodness I have paid for my birthright as a USA citizen: and my eternal gateway and won't be with those whom have SOLD us dba the USA out!

PS the statement that not all will be done...
Out of 276 residents: l4 had functions in a Catholic nursing home!
So that distorts the points attempted in this article.
So does women being breeders every nine months in the nations where Catholicism exerts itself...

Dying without the whole hospital scene of machines which get in the way of human contact should be foster by the medical people. I'm in my 60's and I'm comfortable with dying. I feel we have another problem doctors in the U.S. are not taught how to relieve pain of a dying person. I have heard stupid remarks by medical staff the person will become addict, and I always say they are dying make them comfortable. This is what many people are afraid of in the dying process in the U.S. and dying alone.
