Armstrong Upstaged in Opening of Tour de France

MONACO — Seven-time champion Lance Armstrong went out early and put up a solid time in the opening stage of the Tour de France on Saturday, then was upstaged by Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland.

Cancellara finished the 9.6-mile time trial in 19 minutes, 32 seconds, beating 2007 Tour winner Alberto Contador by 18 seconds to capture the yellow jersey.

Contador, returning to the Tour for the first… » Full Story on NBC Los Angeles

I wish Lance the very best in his quest for another win in the Tour, but, alas, I believe that Father Time will have set his limits. However, Lance's return to cycling has provided a boost to his Livestrong Cancer Foundation, which I believe was the real goal. Also, it has provided a boost to interest in cycling in this country. Both laudable goals.
I am an old (67) cyclist who has no aspirations other than to keep on spinning, and appreciate the successes of our American elite.

Stupid headline. Only rarely does someone who is serious about having the yellow jersey at the end try to go out and grab it at the begining. "Upstaged"? Dumb headline written by someone who follows football.

Lance needs to pack it in. Survived cancer in his balls from the 'roids he took. Be thankful. Maybe even try to get a real job.

I'm not an expert on 'roids but I've known two guys in my life that had testicular cancer and they were given 'roids after their surgery to compensate for low testosterone...I dont know if taking 'roids gives you test. cancer or not?

Lance Armstrong had his day in the sun and I'm glad he survived his cancer ordeal but he is a cheat and a heartbreaker (he sure didn't stick by Sheryl Crow when they were dating and he found out she had breast cancer) and a male diva. Time to retire, OLD BOY.

This is irrelevant. I followed the Tour de France when Lance won his 7th Tour. There were times he was 34th. He is pacing himself so he can kick ass in the end. He's won seven times already. He's probably using the same method to win # eight.
