He probably complained all the time about her cooking, regardless of how good or bad it was. Some folks are never satisfied. I can understand why she might have gotten fed up with his attitude (if that was the case) and beaned him with the phone. I don't know that if that is the actual case here, but there isn't enough information to decide whether it is "elder abuse" or just being fed up with his crap.

The story forgot to mention that she gave him a concussion with her Jello.
