Doesn't anyone ever check the numbers? The murder rate is number of murders divided by the population.

You don't have to be very smart to see that
0.0000146(MT) is less than 0.0000285(MA)
In fact, the murder rate in Massachusetts is almost TWICE that of Montana (195%). It's called math. Try it sometime.
