John Graham: The Health Care We Deserve

The givens: our country over decades has jerry-built a health care "system" that is unfair and inefficient. We pay far more for far less care than any other industrialized nation. And we have forty million people uninsured for whom a major illness can mean mortgaging a home, not sending a kid to college, or worse.

Now the country is finally beginning to address health care reform in a meaningful… » Full Story on Huffington Post

Natasha Richardson was a victim of nationalized health care! \ After falling on the slopes she went to her bedroom to lay down. She did refuse care initially and that cost her 2 hours
As her health deteriorated a call was made and she was tended to for 1/2 hour and then driven 40 minutes to a nearby hospital. Centre Hospitalier Laurentie in Ste-Agathe does not specialize in head traumas and had their cat scan removed by the government due to cost, but that would have quickly given them a diagnosis of what had gone wrong.
It was then decided she needed to be moved to Montreal for further care. However, the province of Quebec lacks a medical helicopter system, which are common in the U.S., so she could not be airlifted to major trauma Centers. Instead she had to continue bleeding internally during the 2 and 1/2 hour car trip to Mont Tremblant (Montreal) and by then it was too late. The Canadian system isn't set up for traumas, due to the cost.

How Much Will Nationalized Health Care Increase Cost? +20%.
With there being 50 million uninsured in America per the congressional budget office (which actually counts 10,000,000 illegal immigrants), and 300,000,000+ Americans, to increase the insured rolls to 100% you go from about 250 mil to 300 mil or a 20% increase in enrollment. Since those 50 mil can't or won't pay now you will increase the costs about 20%. Ouch!
