But for some, it's a lifetime of incarceration. Millions of Americans who have done nothing to anyone else have been arrested, tried, convicted, sentenced and held for years for doing things that cops, prosecutors, judges, lawmakers and their families have done on a regular basis without penalty for even more years. A majority of those in prison in America today are there for drug "offenses" that are part of everyday life for most Americans at one point or another in their lives.
