Thanks, Osama. Just what we needed in the middle of a recession. A government mandated raise in entry-level wages. There will be a lot more folks out of work soon.
Woof.

Just means higher prices for everyone. I would think at least a 1% to 3% markup. And do you think I'm going to get a raise "not" I'll be the one paying for that raise, "you're welcome". baybe we could pull the money from walefare, that might get them back to work and I'm not talking about the people that had jobs and lost them it's the people leaching on the system. You know how you are GFY.

JUST REMEMBER THIS WAS THE FIRST THING THAT DEMOCRATS PASSED IN CONGRESS IN 2006.
Now it means HIGHER PRICES and even HIGHER UNEMPLOYMENT.
The government should not get in the business of dictating wages. If someone wants to work for 5$ an hour for the summer. Then let them. Instead the employer will simply say Im not hiring anyone.
Obamanomics Unemployment 12%
Inflation index 12%
Mortgage rates 10%
Stock Market FLAT
Misery Index Returns

Ah Yes, our government at its finest. What are those idiots in Washington thinking. Ittakes two incomes just to make it in a family household. What do they really think a dollar raise is going to do for someone trying to survive on minimum wage. Gotta love it.

A dollar an hour raise will wreck the economy but AIG and the other thieving companies are giving out hundreds of millions in bonuses
and not a word from the repugnants about how that will affect low income people. We need to get rid of all the un-american republicans.

ON HEALTH CARE: IF THE "SOCIALISTIC" STATES THAT HAVE IT, IF THE SYSTEM IS SO BAD: WHY AREN'T THE GERMANS, FRENCH, CANADAINS, SWEDES, RIOTING IN THE STREETS? 3. WHY IS IT THE HAVES, THAT ALWAY VOTE AGAINST THE MIMINUM WAGE? 4. WHY ARE WE REPAIRING A CAPITALIST SYSTEM THAT BROKE WITH PEOPLE'S MONEY. SO GM CEO, CAN MAKE THE BIG BUCKS FOR ANOTHER 4 YEARS? 5. IF THE SYSTEM WORKS FOR YOU, AS THE SERF SYSTEM WORKED, FOR THE NOBILITY OF THE PAST, WHY CHANGE IT? THE NOBLES WERE QUITE HAPPY!!!

Minimum wage does need to go up, even more than the $7.25 if you ask me, but this is a horrible time for it. Too bad they didn't see this coming three years ago when they set this into place. I just hope it doesn't cause more layoffs in the companies struggling right now. Lord knows they don't need the added expense.

On the other hand, I know a few people who got laid off previously and are now working at minimum wage. And I'm happy that they're going to get an increase because they deserve it. They could have asked for a handout from the government and stayed home but they didn't do that. They swallowed their pride and took jobs that paid them far less just to show their children that you have to earn your way in this world and to never give up. To those people all over, congratulations!

I think the minimum wage needs to go up! But more than a dollar! I am a single mom who works full time $10.50 an hour and goes to school full time. I can't even pay my rent half the time. This is b*******! and these rich republican **$&@*#$#&$@*# think that raising the the M.W. is a bad idea. How about you people work at $10.50 an hour and seehow it feels to worry about feeding your kid!!!

Raising the min. wage may seem like a good idea but it will have a snowball effect of prices all going up in everything from food, transportation, entertainment and luxury items. The people on a flat wage or fixed income don't get any additional money to make up for that increase, which will make it more difficult for them. I know a little more is always wanted and would be more benificial if we learned to live in our means.

I know, call me an ignorant teen, but I had no idea that our (California's) minimum wage was that much higher than others. I suppose it's because stuff costs more here...

THERE ARE ONLY TWO REASON TO MAKE MINIMUM WAGE IN THIS COUNTRY. #1, YOU ARE A TEEN OR HAVE VERY LITTLE WORK EXPERIENCE. #2. YOU ARE A LAZY F--K WHO DIDN'T BOTHER TO STUDY IN SCHOOL AND NOW WHINES BECAUSE THINGS AREN'T GIVEN TO YOU. i AM 47 AND i HAVEN'T MADE 7.50 PER HOUR SINCE i LEFT THE NAVY, 30 YEARS AGO.

I live in New York, and I thought that the minimum wage has been $7.25 for a while now, so I am a tad confused.
But, reading the article gives me some mixed feelings. If there is a couple who can barely make ends meet, then they really have no business having children that they can't afford to support. It's good to see some businesses having a company based minimum wage higher than mandated to keep turnover low, and help keep employees off government assistance.
The economy will turn around sooner or later, and everyone needs to keep spending in check and create a savings if at all possible. Some people just refuse to acknowledge that they live way above their means.

This is great! ...for those making min wage. Those of us who spent several years struggling and working our way up for five years to get to 13.40 look at this and go, "Can I get a raise for the same amount as what the min wage jumps?" Cause when I started it was at 5.50. Now newbies are starting out at the same wage I worked for two years to get to. It sort of makes it all seem rather pointless and cheapens my current wage. I mean I am glad people will get more money, I really am. I just feel sort of bitter that it doesn't affect me.

Why do the snobs on here seem to think that if you work for minimum wage you are either stupid or 16 years old. Just imagine how much your groceries would cost if the store owner was paying his employees $10-15 an hour. Then imagine how you would feel if the only employees he could get were stupid or 16 years old. I'm 49 years old (and not stupid) and work in a grocery store for minimum wage. I give an honest day's work for an honest day's pay. I'm glad to work at a job I enjoy for a good employer who is able to charge fair prices for quality groceries. If my boss had to pay his employees $10 or more an hour I wouldn't be able to afford to shop there as his prices would have to go up accordingly. So next time you go to the grocery store give the person waiting on you a smile, it costs you nothing and because they are willing to work for minimum wage you are able to afford the items you are purchasing.

Most of these post MUST have been written by Republican Senators aides. You know the ones that are paid by companies to fight paying Americans a decent wage. I don't see how any true American could wish his fellow American should live at poverty level. At the rate minimum wage increases illegal aliens salaries will surpass minimum wage. Every time minimum wage increases Republicans cry the sky is falling. You cry about people getting earned income credit, well DUH, at minimum wage they qualify for it, if they made more money, there would be NO NEED for earned income credit and the money saved could go to middle class Americans. Jobs are going overseas whether minimum wage is increased or not. $1.00 an hour with no benefits, no regulations, child labor etc, in India, Thailand or Brazil is still WAY less 7.25 an hour and possibly a poor health insurance plan if you're lucky.
